Going the Extra Mile

Would you drive 300 miles to see an opera? Since 1976, Nashville, Tennessee, native Barry Lapidus has made the trip for every Cincinnati Opera production. He knows that no matter what is on stage, there will be something to love about the excellent singers and performances in store. Barry loves coming to Cincinnati not only to see the productions, but also to remain connected to friends, some of whom he met when he was a student at University of Cincinnati.

The smallest things can enhance the opera experience, from good customer service in the box office to a greeting by a familiar face in the lobby. For Barry, a pivotal moment came when he arrived in the theater to find an envelope on his seat with a photo from the production and a note thanking him for being a subscriber for so many years. “Cincinnati Opera has been better than many companies about connecting with those of us who have attended for so long, whether it be with notes, subscriber events or listings in the program book. We love the Opera, and it is wonderful to have that recognized.”

When considering his estate planning, Barry decided to make gifts to support the experiences he loves, and we are grateful that Cincinnati Opera is on that list. “By designating Cincinnati Opera as the beneficiary of my IRA, my gift will go into the endowment and help pay for singers' fees and new work development. And best of all, no one ever has to pay taxes on it!”

Because Barry shared his plans with us, Cincinnati Opera is able to express our gratitude and extend benefits of membership such as invitations to special, behind-the-scenes events, admittance to the donor lounge and introductions to artists. We are grateful to have Barry as a member of the Society of Angels, and we look forward to many more years of celebrating his love for Cincinnati Opera with him.
